In order to instruct KBYG programs on behalf of the Friends of CAIC, potential instructors will need to satisfy the following:
- Have experience teaching avalanche courses to a public audience. Potential Instructors can demonstrate this proficiency bysatisfying one of the following:
- Being a current Certified Instructor with the American Avalanche Association (AAA)
- Being a current qualified AIARE Level 1 instructor or higher.
- Being a current NSP avalanche instructor. Submit copy of instructor card or copy NSP membership record indicating current instructor status.
- Being a current CAIC staff member.
- Submit a resume describing experience travelling in avalanche terrain and teaching avalanche courses to a public audience. Include a summary of avalanche work experience, and backcountry recreational experience. Please provide contact information for the course provider(s) and course leader(s) on these courses you’ve taught.
- Have completed (at a minimum) a field based Level 1 recreational avalanche course. Please provide course date, location, and instructors.
- Be familiar with the KBYG program and curricula prior to instructing it. Potential instructors will need to complete one of following prior to instructing:
- Attend a KBYG training. These trainings will be available in conjunction with the Colorado Snow and Avalanche Workshop (CSAW) as well at AIARE Instructor Training/Refresher Courses.
- Observe two different qualified instructors deliver a KBYG training. YOU NEED TO INFORM THE INSTRUCTORS THAT YOU ARE THERE TO OBSERVE AND HELP!
- Successfully complete a background check
- Potential instructors must sign a release form agreeing to a background check.
- Potential instructors must pass this background check. InfoCubic will conduct the background check and the Friends of the CAIC will cover the cost.
